Doppl alternative: try clothes on an AI avatar of you

Google ended its Doppl try-on app on 30 April 2026. Flamingo builds a free AI avatar from two photos and dresses it in clothes from the shops and your closet.

Google Labs ended Doppl, its AI try-on app, on 30 April 2026, less than a year after launch. If you used Doppl to see clothes on an avatar of yourself, Flamingo works the same basic way. You add a selfie and a head-to-toe photo, and Flamingo builds your twin: a free AI avatar that looks like you. You then put clothes on the twin and see the outfit on yourself before you buy it. Like Doppl, Flamingo takes pieces you find while shopping: on iPhone you can share a product photo or a screenshot to Flamingo from the share sheet. Unlike Doppl, Flamingo also keeps a digital closet of clothes you already own, runs in any web browser at app.tryflamingo.app, and isn't limited to the US. Making the twin is free. Try-ons come with Flamingo Pro, an optional subscription.

What happened to Doppl?

Doppl was an experiment from Google Labs. It launched in June 2025 for iPhone and Android in the US, made an avatar from a full-body photo, and let you try on clothes from screenshots of the web or social media. Google stopped offering it on 30 April 2026 and its page on labs.google now returns a "not found" error. Google's own try-on lives on inside Google Search and Shopping, where you can tap "Try it on" on some product listings and upload a full-length photo.

How do I move from Doppl to Flamingo?

  1. Open Flamingo on iPhone from the App Store, or in a browser at app.tryflamingo.app. You don't need an account or email.
  2. Make your twin. Add a selfie and a head-to-toe photo. Good, even light and only you in the frame give the best twin.
  3. Bring your clothes. Photograph pieces you own and Flamingo cuts them out and tags them. On iPhone you can share product screenshots, including ones you saved for Doppl, to Flamingo from your Photos app.
  4. Try on. Pick one piece or a full outfit and compare before and after with the slider.

Doppl data can't be moved across, because Google ran Doppl as a separate app.

What does Flamingo do that Doppl didn't?

What Doppl did that Flamingo doesn't

Doppl could turn a try-on into a short animated video. Flamingo makes still images: your twin always has the same pose and light, which makes two outfits easy to compare side by side. Doppl was free; on Flamingo the twin is free and try-ons are part of Flamingo Pro.

Is a try-on accurate for size?

No app in this category measures fit, Doppl included. A try-on is an AI image of the outfit on your avatar. Use it for colour, proportion and styling, and check the shop's size guide before you order.

Sources: Doppl's launch was reported by TechCrunch (June 2025); its end date of 30 April 2026 was reported by Jetstream. Flamingo details are from the Flamingo team. Last checked: 7 October 2026.
