A virtual try-on app shows clothes on your own body as an AI image, so you can judge a look before you buy it or wear it. In October 2026 the options fall into three groups. Avatar apps such as Flamingo and Alta build an AI version of you once and dress it again and again. Photo apps such as Fit Check and Acloset put clothes onto one photo you upload. Shop tools such as Google's "Try it on" in Search, Zara and ASOS only work on that shop's own products. Pick an avatar app if you want to compare many outfits in the same pose and light, mix clothes you own with things you might buy, or keep a digital closet. Pick a shop tool if you only want to check one item from that shop. No app in this list measures size or fit. Google's own Doppl app, which many people used for this, ended on 30 April 2026. This page is written by the team behind Flamingo, so we've stuck to facts each app states in its store listing or on its website.

Which one should I use?
- To see many outfits on you and compare them: an avatar app. Flamingo keeps your twin in the same pose and light for every try-on, so the clothes are the only thing that changes.
- To mix clothes you own with things you might buy: Flamingo or Alta, which both pair a closet with try-on. See Alta and Flamingo compared.
- To organise your wardrobe and plan outfits without try-on: Whering, Indyx or Acloset are long-running closet apps.
- To check one product from one shop: use that shop's tool, or Google's "Try it on" where it's available.
- To try a product link once without a subscription: Fit Check sells credits instead.
What makes a try-on good?
- It looks like you. Face, build and skin tone should match. Apps that build an avatar from two photos (a selfie for the face, a full-length shot for the body) usually get closer than one photo.
- Looks are comparable. If the pose and light change every time, it's hard to tell whether the outfit or the photo made the difference.
- Full outfits work. A top on its own tells you less than the top with the trousers and shoes you'd wear with it.
- It's clear about fit. A try-on is an image. It shows colour, proportion and styling, not whether the size fits.
How does Flamingo work?
Add a selfie and a head-to-toe photo and Flamingo builds your twin in about a minute, for free. Photograph clothes you own and Flamingo cuts them out and tags them, or pick pieces from shop catalogues in the app. On iPhone you can also share a product photo or screenshot to Flamingo. Choose one piece or a full outfit and your twin wears it, with a slider to compare before and after. Flamingo also suggests daily outfits for the weather and has Inspo, a feed of looks you can try on in one tap. It styles menswear and womenswear and needs no account to start. Read more in the virtual try-on guide.
What happened to Google Doppl?
Doppl was a free Google Labs try-on app for US users. It ended on 30 April 2026. Google's try-on continues inside Search and Shopping. If you want an app that works the way Doppl did, see Flamingo as a Doppl alternative.
How we made this list
We checked each app's App Store listing and website on 7 October 2026 and only list features and pricing models they state themselves. We left out apps whose listings had been removed. Prices change by country and over time, so we describe how each app charges rather than quoting amounts. If something here is out of date, email hello@tryflamingo.app and we'll fix it.
